Premier Season Four: MP7 and MP5-SD Changes
Valve released season four of Premier on January 21, 2026, replacing Train in the map pool with a newly updated Anubis, two new skin collections, and interestingly, damage buffs to the MP7 and MP5-SD.
The Changes
Per the patch notes, the MP7 and MP5-SD received “slightly increased damage” and “slightly reduced damage fall-off”, but what exactly does that entail?
Thanks to @eugenio8a8 on X, who posted the graph at bottom of the article, we can see the damage of torso shots for both SMGs has increased, making material differences in the viable range of these weapons. With this, we are able to calculate the breakpoints for the number of bullets required to kill an enemy (see tables below).
![]() | Unarmored - 4 Shots to kill | Armored - 7 Shots to kill | Armored - 6 Shots to kill |
|---|---|---|---|
| NEW | ~400u | ~550u | ~100u |
| OLD | ~250u | ~350u | Not possible |
| Improvement | 60% | 57% | ∞ |
![]() | Unarmored - 4 Shots to kill | Armored - 6 Shots to kill |
|---|---|---|
| NEW | ~650u | ~350u |
| OLD | ~450u | ~200u |
| Improvement | 44% | 75% |
Let’s jump into our new Premier map, Anubis, to help visualize the changes.
MP5-SD
Before the update, the minimum number of torso shots required to kill an armored opponent with the MP5-SD was 7 shots, dealing 15 damage per shot. The old MP5-SD dealt 15 damage at ~350 units. After the changes, you now deal 15 damage to an opponent up to ~550 units away. This constitutes a 57% range increase on the 7-shot kill.
More importantly, if you are within 100 units of your armored opponent, you can now kill the enemy in 6 shots by dealing 17 damage per hit. This was impossible before. Although it's quite a small distance, it is still a significant change in the effectiveness of the weapon.
Against an un-armored opponent, the MP5-SD can deal 25+ damage with a torso shot. With the old MP-5, the max distance to achieve this was 250 units. After the buff, you can now 4-shot an un-armored opponent up to 450 units away with torso shots. This is a 60% improvement over the pre-update 4-shot range.
MP-7
The minimum number of torso shots required to kill an armored opponent with the MP-7 is 6 shots, dealing 17 damage per shot. The old MP-7 dealt 17 damage at ~200 units. After the changes, you now deal 17 damage to an opponent up to ~350 units away. This constitutes a 75% range increase on the 6-shot kill.
Like the MP5-SD, against un-armored opponents, the MP-7 can kill in 4 shots, dealing 25+ damage. However, the range is significantly better on this breakpoint. The pre-update 4-shot distance was 450 units, and it’s now 650 units. This is a 44% increase on the 4-shot range for the MP-7.

When reading the graph, note that damage to a player in CS2 is always rounded down to the nearest integer, if the damage on the chart should be 17.85, the shot will deal 17 damage.
There’s a lot more to learn on this subject, so if you want to dive deeper into the world of damage values, we recommend that you check out @SlothSquadron and his famous spreadsheet.
